Holidays Approaching...and an Ice Storm
posted at 4:20 PM
We've been busy at the Birds and the Teas with holiday gift baskets. We'd like to wish Happy Holidays to all our customers. Last night and early this morning we were hit with a significant ice storm that left behind sleet and freezing rain that deposited just under 1/2 inch of ice on all surfaces. Many tree limbs came down in the area due to the tremendous extra weight of the ice. Some of our own trees branches are bent to the ground and we hope they will recover. Although destructive in some ways, the ice storm provided some amazing and beautiful images around the yard. See our picture of N. Cardinals in an ice coated tree in our bird talk blog. Ice covered Washington Hawthorn Tree. Our White Pine limbs were sagging to the ground due to the weight of the ice.

Ready or Not, Here They Come...
Before you know it, the holidays will be here. I thoroughly enjoy buying
gifts, but I do what I can to avoid the crowds. If you would like to
avoid the crowds and still give great gifts, why not consider a gift
basket from The Birds and the Teas? They make great gifts for friends,
families, or coworkers and are a great way to sample different tea
varieties. We can make gift baskets for all occasions. Let us create a
gift basket for you that will truly be appreciated and stay within your
budget.
Hope to hear from you. Enjoy this wonderful weather and, as always,
drink more tea.

A California Connection
posted at 10:07 AM
The Birds and The Teas had a wonderful day at the tea tasting at the Papyrus Store in Palo Alto on Saturday, October 25. My sister, Virginia, lives in the Bay Area and agreed to represent us for this event. She had a great time and met lots of west coast tea-lovers. She served the Bradley Breakfast Blend and everyone enjoyed it.
Thanks, so much to Lisa, who invited us and everyone else at Papyrus. We truly appreciate your support – not to mention your excellent taste in tea. I hope we can do it again when I can be there.
Thanks again and keep drinking tea,
Lorraine

We had a fantastic day at the Coal City Octoberfest. The weather was perfect and we served a lot of tea. Thanks to everyone who stopped by, it was nice to see so many friends. I really appreciate your support.
I was also pleased to meet so many local tea lovers. It warms my heart to hear people say they LOVE tea. Kindred spirits.....
I hope to hear from you and please, visit our shop at the Milltown Market in Wilmington, IL. The date and time of our monthly tea tastings are always listed on the web page, so make sure and check there for our next event. If you stop by Milltown Market and don't see what you want, contact me (phone 815-941-0415) or let Gary, Kay, or Katie know at the front desk, and they'll call me.

Autumn Happenings
posted at 5:01 PM
I hope everyone is enjoying fall. Our Asters are in bloom and providing a source of food for bees and butterflies as shown in the image above taken in our backyard. It is so nice to see the first hint of
color in the trees and shrubs. The weather has been warm - and we've had
a tremendous amount of rain - but the trees know its time to begin their
dormancy. So, even though it doesn't "feel" like fall all the time - yet
- I've brought back the Cold Weather Blend. Several people have asked,"
when?" - so its back. Its a perfect tea to have hot, when its cool in
the evenings - or iced, when the days are still warm. For those of you
unfamiliar with the Cold Weather Blend, it is a wonderful combination of
quality black ...
