An ice storm left behind nearly 1/2 inch of glaze over all surfaces overnight. We made sure to put out fresh seed for the birds this morning. After ice or snow storms, much of the previous seed or natural sources like old seed heads are not accessible. At one time we counted 30 Tree Sparrows under the feeder. Gold finches, Pine Siskins, White-crowned Sparrows, and Chickadees also visited the feeder today. We saw this pair of Cardinals in one of the trees that like many in and around the area, was covered in ice.

We've had some snow during the last 24 hours and wind chills are currently in the teens. Although the snow was light, a little under 1 inch, it sure feels like winter. This morning we had 6 Pine Siskins at our thistle feeder. Also at and around the feeder area were Tree Sparrows, Juncos, White-crowned sparrows and as many as 6 Northern Cardinals.
